Choosing the Twelve Apostles

Mat 10:1–4

1 Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them power to throw out evil spirits, and to heal all kinds of diseases and sicknesses.
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, (also called Peter), Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, John his brother,
3 Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew the tax-collector, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddeus,
4 Simon the revolutionary, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.

13 Then Jesus went away to the hill country. He called those he wanted to be with him, and they came to him.
14 He chose twelve to be with him, and called them apostles. They were to be with him, and he would send them out to announce the good news,
15 and with the authority to drive out demons.
16 These are the twelve he chose: Simon (whom he called Peter),
17 James the son of Zebedee and his brother John (who he called Boanerges, meaning “sons of thunder”),
18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Revolutionary,
19 and Judas Iscariot (who betrayed him).

12 One day shortly after, Jesus went up a mountain to pray. He remained there all night, praying to God.
13 When morning came he called together his disciples, and chose twelve of them. These are the names of the apostles:
14 Simon (also called Peter by Jesus), Andrew his brother, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
15 Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon the Revolutionary,
16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot (who became a traitor).
