Cleansing a Leper

Plain English Version (PEV)

Mat 8:1–4

  1. 1 Jesus went to a town called Capernaum. There was a Roman army boss there, the boss of 100 soldiers. He came to Jesus and strongly asked him for help.
  2. 2 He said, “Sir, my young worker is lying in bed at home. He can’t move, and he is hurting a lot.”
  3. 3 Jesus said, “I will go with you and make him better.”
  4. 4 But the army boss said to Jesus, “Sir, I’m not a good enough man for you to go into my house. But you can do it right here. You can tell that sickness to stop, and leave my worker, and then he will get better straight away.

Mrk 1:40–45

  1. 40 Jesus then told him strongly, “I don’t want you to tell anyone about this. But I want you to go to God’s house and show your skin to the leaders of the Jewish ceremony, so that they can see that you are better. And you have to do the right ceremony that Moses gave us, to say thank you to God. He is the one that makes us better. When you do that ceremony, everyone will see that God was good to you.”
  2. 41 But the man didn’t do what Jesus said. He went away and told everyone, “Jesus made me better.” After people heard the man’s story they came from everywhere. Lots of people came to Jesus. He couldn’t walk by himself in the towns any more. There were too many people. So he had to stay out in the bush. But people still came from everywhere and found him.
