The Triumphal Entry

Free Bible Version (FBV)

Mat 21:1–11

  1. 1 Jesus and his disciples went to Jerusalem. As they were getting close, they came to the village of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two disciples on ahead,
  2. 2 telling them, “Go into the village. Right there you'll find a donkey tied up with a colt. Untie them and bring them to me.
  3. 3 If anyone asks you what you're doing, just tell them, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and they will send them right away.”
  4. 4 This was to fulfill what the prophet said:
  5. 5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Look, your King is coming to you. He is humble, and rides a donkey, and a colt, the offspring of a donkey.’”
  6. 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed.
  7. 7 They brought back the donkey and the colt. They placed their cloaks on them, and he sat on them.
  8. 8 Many people in the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and laid them on the road.
  9. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed were all shouting, “Hosanna to the son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
  10. 10 When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, the whole city was in an uproar. “Who is this?” they were asking.
  11. 11 “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee,” the crowds replied.

Mrk 11:1–11

  1. 1 As they approached Jerusalem, near to Bethphage and Bethany, beside the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples on ahead.
  2. 2 He told them, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as soon as you enter, you'll find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden before. Untie it and bring it here.
  3. 3 If anyone asks you what you are doing, tell them, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back soon.’”
  4. 4 So they set off, and found a colt tied to a door, out on the street, and they untied it.
  5. 5 Some of the people standing around asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt”?
  6. 6 The disciples replied just as Jesus told them to, and the people let them go.
  7. 7 They brought the colt to Jesus, put their cloaks on it, and Jesus sat on it.
  8. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others laid down leafy branches that they'd cut in the fields.
  9. 9 Those leading in the front and those that were following were all shouting, “Hosanna! Bless the one coming in the name of the Lord.
  10. 10 Bless the kingdom of our father David that is coming! Hosanna in the highest!”
  11. 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went in to the Temple. He looked around him, observing everything, and then, since it was getting late, he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.

Luk 19:28–40

  1. 28 After he'd finished telling them this story, Jesus left for Jerusalem, walking on ahead.
  2. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples, telling them:
  3. 30 “Go to the village farther on. As you enter it you'll find a colt tied up that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
  4. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
  5. 32 So the two disciples went and found that everything was just as Jesus had said.
  6. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
  7. 34 The disciples replied, “The Lord needs it.”
  8. 35 They brought the colt to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks over it, and sat Jesus on its back.
  9. 36 As he rode along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
  10. 37 As he approached Jerusalem, right where the road goes down from the Mount of Olives, the crowd of disciples all began shouting joyful praises to God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.
  11. 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord,” they shouted. “Peace in heaven and glory in highest heaven.”
  12. 39 Some of the Pharisees who were in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, stop your disciples from saying that.”
  13. 40 But Jesus replied, “I tell you that if they kept quiet then the stones will shout!”

Jhn 12:12–19

  1. 12 The following day the crowds of people who had come for the Passover festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
  2. 13 They cut off palm branches and went to welcome him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the king of Israel.”
  3. 14 Jesus found a young donkey and rode on it, as Scripture says:
  4. 15 “Don't be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, riding a donkey's colt.”
  5. 16 At the time, Jesus' disciples did not understand what these things meant. It was only later when he was glorified that they realized what had happened had been prophesied and applied to him.
  6. 17 Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb and raise him from the dead and were telling the story.
  7. 18 That was the reason so many people went to meet Jesus—because they had heard about this miracle.
  8. 19 The Pharisees said to one other, “Look, we're getting nowhere. Everyone's running after him.”
