The Capture of Jerusalem

English Revised Version (ERV)

2Sa 5:6–10

  1. 6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.
  2. 7 Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
  3. 8 And David said on that day, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites, let him get up to the watercourse, and smite the lame and the blind, that are hated of David’s soul. Wherefore they say, There are the blind and the lame; he cannot come into the house.
  4. 9 And David dwelt in the strong hold, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
  5. 10 And David waxed greater and greater; for the LORD, the God of hosts, was with him.

1Ch 11:4–9

  1. 4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.
  2. 5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
  3. 6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.
  4. 7 And David dwelt in the strong hold; therefore they called it the city of David.
  5. 8 And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.
  6. 9 And David waxed greater and greater; for the LORD of hosts was with him.
