แต่เมื่อดาวิดทอดพระเนตรเห็นข้าราชการกระซิบกระซาบกันอยู่ ดาวิดเข้าพระทัยว่าพระกุมารนั้นสิ้นพระชนม์แล้ว ดาวิดจึงรับสั่งถามข้าราชการของพระองค์ว่า “เด็กนั้นสิ้นชีวิตแล้วหรือ” เขาทูลตอบว่า “สิ้นชีวิตแล้วพ่ะย่ะค่ะ”
