The Kingdom Divided

World Messianic Bible (WMB)

1Ki 12:1–19

  1. 1 Jehoash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
  2. 2 Jehoash did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes all his days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
  3. 3 However, the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.
  4. 4 Jehoash said to the priests, “All the money of the holy things that is brought into the LORD’s house, in current money, the money of the people for whom each man is evaluated, and all the money that it comes into any man’s heart to bring into the LORD’s house,
  5. 5 let the priests take it to them, each man from his donor; and they shall repair the damage to the house, wherever any damage is found.”
  6. 6 But it was so, that in the twenty-third year of King Jehoash the priests had not repaired the damage to the house.
  7. 7 Then King Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and for the other priests, and said to them, “Why aren’t you repairing the damage to the house? Now therefore take no more money from your treasurers, but deliver it for repair of the damage to the house.”
  8. 8 The priests consented that they should take no more money from the people, and not repair the damage to the house.
  9. 9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the LORD’s house; and the priests who kept the threshold put all the money that was brought into the LORD’s house into it.
  10. 10 When they saw that there was much money in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put it in bags and counted the money that was found in the LORD’s house.
  11. 11 They gave the money that was weighed out into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the LORD’s house; and they paid it out to the carpenters and the builders who worked on the LORD’s house,
  12. 12 and to the masons and the stone cutters, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the damage to the LORD’s house, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
  13. 13 But there were not made for the LORD’s house cups of silver, snuffers, basins, shofars, any vessels of gold or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the LORD’s house;
  14. 14 for they gave that to those who did the work, and repaired the LORD’s house with it.
  15. 15 Moreover they didn’t demand an accounting from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to give to those who did the work; for they dealt faithfully.
  16. 16 The money for the trespass offerings and the money for the sin offerings was not brought into the LORD’s house. It was the priests’.
  17. 17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath, and took it; and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
  18. 18 Jehoash king of Judah took all the holy things that Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own holy things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the LORD’s house, and of the king’s house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria; and he went away from Jerusalem.
  19. 19 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

2Ch 10:1–19

  1. 1 Then I looked, and see, in the expanse that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
  2. 2 He spoke to the man clothed in linen, and said, “Go in between the whirling wheels, even under the cherub, and fill both your hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city.” He went in as I watched.
  3. 3 Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.
  4. 4 The LORD’s glory mounted up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.
  5. 5 The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when he speaks.
  6. 6 It came to pass, when he commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, “Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim,” that he went in and stood beside a wheel.
  7. 7 The cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it, and put it into the hands of him who was clothed in linen, who took it and went out.
  8. 8 The form of a man’s hand appeared here in the cherubim under their wings.
  9. 9 I looked, and behold, there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside one cherub, and another wheel beside another cherub. The appearance of the wheels was like a beryl stone.
  10. 10 As for their appearance, the four of them had one likeness, like a wheel within a wheel.
  11. 11 When they went, they went in their four directions. They didn’t turn as they went, but to the place where the head looked they followed it. They didn’t turn as they went.
  12. 12 Their whole body, including their backs, their hands, their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes all around, even the wheels that the four of them had.
  13. 13 As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing, “the whirling wheels”.
  14. 14 Every one them had four faces. The first face was the face of the cherub. The second face was the face of a man. The third face was the face of a lion. The fourth was the face of an eagle.
  15. 15 The cherubim mounted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river Chebar.
  16. 16 When the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them; and when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels also didn’t turn from beside them.
  17. 17 When they stood, these stood. When they mounted up, these mounted up with them; for the spirit of the living creature was in them.
  18. 18 The LORD’s glory went out from over the threshold of the house and stood over the cherubim.
  19. 19 The cherubim lifted up their wings and mounted up from the earth in my sight when they went out, with the wheels beside them. Then they stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
