Walking on the Water

Free Bible Version (FBV)

Mat 14:22–33

  1. 22 Right after this he made the disciples get into the boat and go back to the other side of the lake while he sent the crowds on their way.
  2. 23 After he'd sent the crowds away, he went up into the mountains to pray. Evening came and he was there all alone.
  3. 24 By now the boat was a long way out from land, being pounded by the waves because the wind was blowing against it.
  4. 25 About 3 a.m. Jesus caught up with them, walking on the sea.
  5. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified. They screamed out in fear, “It's a ghost!”
  6. 27 But immediately Jesus said to them, “Don't worry, it's me! Don't be afraid!”
  7. 28 “Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come over to you, walking on the water,” Peter replied.
  8. 29 “Come on then,” said Jesus. Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water towards Jesus.
  9. 30 But when he saw how strong the wind was, he became scared, and started to sink. “Lord! Save me!” he cried out.
  10. 31 Immediately Jesus reached out and grabbed hold of him, and said, “You have such little trust in me. Why did you doubt?”
  11. 32 When they got into the boat, the wind died down,
  12. 33 and those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “You really are the Son of God!”

Mrk 6:45–52

  1. 45 Immediately after this Jesus instructed his disciples to get back into the boat. They were to go on ahead to Bethsaida on the other side of the lake while he sent the people on their way.
  2. 46 Once he'd said goodbye to them he went up into the hills to pray.
  3. 47 Late that evening the boat was in the middle of the lake while Jesus was alone, still on land.
  4. 48 He could see them being buffeted about as they rowed hard because the wind was blowing against them. In the early morning hours Jesus came to them, walking on the water. He would have passed them,
  5. 49 but when they saw him walking on the water they thought he was a ghost. They screamed out
  6. 50 because they could all see him and were absolutely terrified. Jesus told them right away: “Don't worry, it's me. Don't be afraid!”
  7. 51 He went over to them and climbed into the boat, and the wind died down. They were totally shocked,
  8. 52 for they hadn't understood the meaning of the feeding miracle due to their stubborn, hard-hearted attitude.

Jhn 6:15–21

  1. 15 Jesus realized that they were about to force him to become their king, so he left them and went up into the hills to be by himself.
  2. 16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
  3. 17 climbed into a boat, and headed across the water towards Capernaum. By now it was night and Jesus had not joined them yet.
  4. 18 A strong wind began blowing and the sea grew rough.
  5. 19 When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, coming towards the boat. They were very frightened.
  6. 20 “Don't be afraid!” he told them. “It's me.”
  7. 21 Then they gladly took him into the boat, and immediately they reached the shore where they were going.
