The Crucifixion

Free Bible Version (FBV)

Mat 27:32–44

  1. 32 On the way they found a man called Simon, from Cyrene, and they forced him to carry Jesus' cross.
  2. 33 When they arrived at Golgotha, meaning “Place of the Skull,”
  3. 34 they gave him wine mixed with gall. But having tasted it, he refused to drink it.
  4. 35 After they had crucified him, they rolled dice to divide his clothes between them.
  5. 36 Then they sat down and kept watch over him there.
  6. 37 They placed a sign over his head with the charge against him. It read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”
  7. 38 They crucified two criminals with him, one on the right, and one on the left.
  8. 39 Those who passed by shouted insults at him, shaking their heads,
  9. 40 saying, “You who promised to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days, why don't you save yourself! If you really are the Son of God, then come down from the cross.”
  10. 41 The chief priests mocked him in the same way, along with the religious teachers and elders.
  11. 42 “He saved other people, but he can't save himself!” they said. “If he really is the king of Israel, let him come down from the cross, and then we'll believe him!
  12. 43 He trusts God so confidently—well let God rescue him now if he wants him, because he claimed ‘I am the Son of God.’”
  13. 44 The criminals who were crucified with him also insulted him in the same way.

Mrk 15:21–32

  1. 21 They forced a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming from the countryside, to carry his cross. Simon was the father of Alexander and Rufus.
  2. 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha, which means “the Place of the Skull.”
  3. 23 They offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he refused it.
  4. 24 Then they crucified him. They divided his clothes, and threw dice to decide who would have what.
  5. 25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him.
  6. 26 A sign with the written charge against him read: “The King of the Jews.”
  7. 27 They crucified two criminals with him, one on his left and one on his right.
  8. 28 People passing by shouted insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying. “Aha! You who claimed you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days;
  9. 29 save yourself and come down from the cross!”
  10. 30 Likewise the chief priests and the religious teachers made fun of him, saying to each other, “He saved others, but he can't save himself.
  11. 31 If he really is the Messiah, the King of Israel, then why doesn't he come down from the cross so we can see and believe!” Even those who were crucified with him insulted him.
  12. 32 At noon darkness fell over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

Luk 23:26–43

  1. 26 A large crowd followed him, along with women who were mourning and lamenting him.
  2. 27 Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me. Weep for yourselves and your children.
  3. 28 For the time is coming when they'll say, ‘Happy are those who are childless, and those who never had babies, and those who never nursed them.’
  4. 29 They'll say to the mountains, ‘Fall down on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’
  5. 30 For if they do this to wood that is green, what will happen when it's dried out?”
  6. 31 They also took two others who were criminals to be executed with him.
  7. 32 When they reached the place called the Skull they crucified him together with the criminals, one on his right, and the other on his left.
  8. 33 Jesus said, “Father, please forgive them, for they don't know what they're doing.” They divided up his clothes by throwing dice for them.
  9. 34 The people stood and watched and the leaders sneered at Jesus. “He saved others, let him save himself, if he is really God's Messiah, the Chosen One,” they said.
  10. 35 The soldiers also mocked him, coming up to him and offering him wine vinegar, saying,
  11. 36 “If you're the King of the Jews, then save yourself.”
  12. 37 Above Jesus was a sign on which it was written, “This is the King of the Jews.”
  13. 38 One of the criminals hanging there joined in the insults against Jesus. “Aren't you the Messiah?” he asked. “Then save yourself—and us too!”
  14. 39 But the other criminal disagreed and argued with him, “Don't you fear God even when you're suffering the same punishment?” he asked.
  15. 40 “For us the sentence is right since we're being punished for what we did, but this man didn't do anything wrong.”
  16. 41 Then he said, “Jesus, please remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
  17. 42 Jesus replied, “I promise you today you will be with me in paradise.”
  18. 43 By this time it was around noon and darkness fell over the whole land until three in the afternoon.

Jhn 19:16–27

  1. 16 So he handed Jesus over to them to be crucified.
  2. 17 They led Jesus away, who carried his own cross, and went out to the “Place of the Skull,” (Golgotha in Hebrew).
  3. 18 They crucified him there, and two others with him: one on either side, with Jesus between them.
  4. 19 Pilate had a notice made and placed on the cross which said, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
  5. 20 Many people read the notice because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
  6. 21 Then the chief priests came to Pilate and asked him, “Don't write ‘the King of the Jews,’ but ‘This man said I am the King of the Jews.’”
  7. 22 Pilate replied, “What I have written I have written.”
  8. 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus they took his clothes and divided them in four so that each soldier had his share. There was also his robe, made without seams, woven in one piece.
  9. 24 So they said to each other, “Let's not tear it, but let's decide who will have it by rolling dice.” This fulfilled the Scripture that says, “They divided my garments among them and rolled dice for my clothing.”
  10. 25 So that is what the soldiers did. Standing near the cross was Jesus' mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene.
  11. 26 When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Mother, this is your son.”
  12. 27 Then he said to the disciple, “This is your mother.” From then on the disciple took her into his home.
