Peter's Confession of Christ

Free Bible Version (FBV)

Mat 16:13–20

  1. 13 When Jesus arrived in the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of man is?”
  2. 14 “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets,” they replied.
  3. 15 “But what about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”
  4. 16 “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God,” Simon Peter replied.
  5. 17 “You are truly blessed, Simon son of John,” Jesus told him. “For this wasn't revealed to you by human flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
  6. 18 I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the powers of death won't overcome it.
  7. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you ban on earth will be banned in heaven, and whatever you allow on earth will be allowed in heaven.”
  8. 20 Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Mrk 8:27–30

  1. 27 Jesus and his disciples left to go to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?”
  2. 28 “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, others say one of the prophets,” they replied.
  3. 29 “But who do you say I am?” he asked them. “You are the Messiah!” Peter answered.
  4. 30 Jesus warned them not to tell anybody about him.

Luk 9:18–21

  1. 18 At another time, when Jesus was praying in private with just his disciples with him, he asked them, “All these crowds of people—who do they say I am?”
  2. 19 “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others say one of the ancient prophets risen from the dead,” they replied.
  3. 20 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” “God's Messiah,” Peter replied.
  4. 21 Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anybody about this.
