Peter's Denial

Douay-Rheims 1899 (DRA)

Mat 26:69–75

  1. 69 But Peter sat without in the court: and there came to him a servant maid, saying: Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilean.
  2. 70 But he denied before them all, saying: I know not what thou sayest.
  3. 71 And as he went out of the gate, another maid saw him, and she saith to them that were there: This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.
  4. 72 And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man.
  5. 73 And after a little while they came that stood by, and said to Peter: Surely thou also art one of them; for even thy speech doth discover thee.
  6. 74 Then he began to curse and to swear that he knew not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
  7. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus which he had said: Before the cock crow, thou wilt deny me thrice. And going forth, he wept bitterly.

Mrk 14:66–72

  1. 66 Now when Peter was in the court below, there cometh one of the maidservants of the high priest.
  2. 67 And when she had seen Peter warming himself, looking on him she saith: Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
  3. 68 But he denied, saying: I neither know nor understand what thou sayest. And he went forth before the court; and the cock crew.
  4. 69 And again a maidservant seeing him, began to say to the standers by: This is one of them.
  5. 70 But he denied again. And after a while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.
  6. 71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying; I know not this man of whom you speak.
  7. 72 And immediately the cock crew again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said unto him: Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me. And he began to weep.

Luk 22:54–62

  1. 54 And apprehending him, they led him to the high priest’s house. But Peter followed afar off.
  2. 55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting about it, Peter was in the midst of them.
  3. 56 Whom when a certain servant maid had seen sitting at the light, and had earnestly beheld him, she said: This man also was with him.
  4. 57 But he denied him, saying: Woman, I know him not.
  5. 58 And after a little while, another seeing him, said: Thou also art one of them. But Peter said: O man, I am not.
  6. 59 And after the space, as it were of one hour, another certain man affirmed, saying: Of a truth, this man was also with him; for he is also a Galilean.
  7. 60 And Peter said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, as he was yet speaking, the cock crew.
  8. 61 And the Lord turning looked on Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, as he had said: Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
  9. 62 And Peter going out, wept bitterly.

Jhn 18:15–27

  1. 15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. And that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the court of the high priest.
  2. 16 But Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out, and spoke to the portress, and brought in Peter.
  3. 17 The maid therefore that was portress, saith to Peter: Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith: I am not.
  4. 18 Now the servants and ministers stood at a fire of coals, because it was cold, and warmed themselves. And with them was Peter also, standing, and warming himself.
  5. 19 The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
  6. 20 Jesus answered him: I have spoken openly to the world: I have always taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort; and in secret I have spoken nothing.
  7. 21 Why asketh thou me? ask them who have heard what I have spoken unto them: behold they know what things I have said.
  8. 22 And when he had said these things, one of the servants standing by, gave Jesus a blow, saying: Answerest thou the high priest so?
  9. 23 Jesus answered him: If I have spoken evil, give testimony of the evil; but if well, why strikest thou me?
  10. 24 And Annas sent him bound to Caiphas the high priest.
  11. 25 And Simon Peter was standing, and warming himself. They said therefore to him: Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said: I am not.
  12. 26 One of the servants of the high priest (a kinsman to him whose ear Peter cut off) saith to him: Did I not see thee in the garden with him?
  13. 27 Again therefore Peter denied; and immediately the cock crew.
