The Capture of Jerusalem

Darby Translation (DBY)

2Sa 5:6–10

  1. 6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land; and they spoke to David, saying, Thou shalt not come in hither, but the blind and the lame will drive thee back; as much as to say, David will not come in hither.
  2. 7 But David took the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.
  3. 8 And David said on that day, Whoever smites the Jebusites and gets up to the watercourse, and the lame and the blind hated of David's soul...! Therefore they say, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
  4. 9 So David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from the Millo and inward.
  5. 10 And David became continually greater; and Jehovah the God of hosts was with him.

1Ch 11:4–9

  1. 4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
  2. 5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. But David took the stronghold of Zion, which is the city of David.
  3. 6 And David said, Whoever smites the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.
  4. 7 And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.
  5. 8 And he built the city round about, even from the Millo round about; and Joab renewed the rest of the city.
  6. 9 And David became continually greater; and Jehovah of hosts was with him.
