Peter's Denial

Darby Translation (DBY)

Mat 26:69–75

  1. 69 But Peter sat without in the palace-court; and a maid came to him, saying, And thou wast with Jesus the Galilaean.
  2. 70 But he denied before all, saying, I do not know what thou sayest.
  3. 71 And when he had gone out into the entrance, another maid saw him, and says to those there, This man also was with Jesus the Nazaraean.
  4. 72 And again he denied with an oath: I do not know the man.
  5. 73 And after a little, those who stood there, coming to him, said to Peter, Truly thou too art of them, for also thy speech makes thee manifest.
  6. 74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
  7. 75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who had said to him, Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went forth without, and wept bitterly.

Mrk 14:66–72

  1. 66 And Peter being below in the palace-court, there comes one of the maids of the high priest,
  2. 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, having looked at him, says, And thou wast with the Nazarene, Jesus.
  3. 68 But he denied, saying, I know not nor understand what thou sayest. And he went out into the vestibule; and a cock crew.
  4. 69 And the maid, seeing him, again began to say to those that stood by, This is one of them.
  5. 70 And he again denied. And again, after a little, those that stood by said to Peter, Truly thou art one of them, for also thou art a Galilean.
  6. 71 But he began to curse and to swear, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
  7. 72 And the second time a cock crew. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice; and when he thought thereon he wept.

Luk 22:54–62

  1. 54 And having laid hold on him, they led him away, and they led him into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed afar off.
  2. 55 And they having lit a fire in the midst of the court and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
  3. 56 And a certain maid, having seen him sitting by the light, and having fixed her eyes upon him, said, And this man was with him.
  4. 57 But he denied him, saying, Woman, I do not know him.
  5. 58 And after a short time another seeing him said, And thou art of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
  6. 59 And after the lapse of about one hour another stoutly maintained it, saying, In truth this man also was with him, for also he is a Galilaean.
  7. 60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crew.
  8. 61 And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.
  9. 62 And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.

Jhn 18:15–27

  1. 15 Now Simon Peter followed Jesus, and the other disciple. But that disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest;
  2. 16 but Peter stood at the door without. The other disciple therefore, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the porteress and brought in Peter.
  3. 17 The maid therefore, who was porteress, says to Peter, Art thou also of the disciples of this man? He says, I am not.
  4. 18 But the bondmen and officers, having made a fire of coals (for it was cold), stood and warmed themselves; and Peter was standing with them and warming himself.
  5. 19 The high priest therefore demanded of Jesus concerning his disciples and concerning his doctrine.
  6. 20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I taught always in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and in secret I have spoken nothing.
  7. 21 Why demandest thou of me? Demand of those who have heard, what I have spoken to them; behold, they know what I have said.
  8. 22 But as he said these things, one of the officers who stood by gave a blow on the face to Jesus, saying, Answerest thou the high priest thus?
  9. 23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why smitest thou me?
  10. 24 Annas then had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
  11. 25 But Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, Art thou also of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not.
  12. 26 One of the bondmen of the high priest, who was kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
  13. 27 Peter denied therefore again, and immediately the cock crew.
