แล้วดาวิดรับสั่งแก่บรรดาข้าราชการที่อยู่กับพระองค์ ณ เยรูซาเล็มว่า “จงลุกขึ้นให้เราหนีไปเถิด มิฉะนั้นเราจะหนีไม่พ้นจากอับซาโลมสักคนเดียว จงรีบไป เกรงว่าเขาจะตามเราทันโดยเร็วและนำเหตุร้ายมาถึงเรา และทำลายกรุงนี้เสียด้วยคมดาบ”
